BetMGM bonus code offers $1K first bet promo for NBA, other sports all week

LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers reacts after missing a shot during the fourth quarter against the Denver Nuggets in game three of the Western Conference Finals at Crypto.com Arena on May 20, 2023, in Los Angeles, California.

The BetMGM bonus code TRIBUNEMGM gives new users a robust first bet offer for wagering on the NBA or other sports on Monday.

New users who sign up with that bonus code can get up to $1,000 in bonus bets if their first wager goes south, with a refund equal to whatever they lost. So if you put $300 on the Lakers moneyline against the Nuggets tonight, you’ll get the profits and your bet back if it wins. But if L.A. loses, you’ll get $300 in bonus bets back.

In addition to this evergreen offer, BetMGM currently has two sport-specific offers that new users can claim. Thus, there are three potential offers for new users:

  • BetMGM bonus code TRIBUNEMLB: This exclusive promotion offers new users up to $200 in bonus bets in Massachusetts and Ohio when they place a $10 MLB moneyline wager. Other states will get $100 in bonus bets instead of $200.
  • BetMGM bonus code TRIBUNENBA: This NBA promotion is similarly structured, as it gives new users up to $200 in bonus bets when they place a $10 moneyline bet on any NBA playoff game in Mass. and Ohio. Other states will get $100.
  • BetMGM bonus code TRIBUNEMGM: This evergreen promotion, which is live in every BetMGM state except New York and Washington D.C., gives new users up to $1,000 in bonus bets if their first wager loses.

This evergreen offer will be familiar to most bettors, as many sportsbook offer some version of the “first bet insurance” promotion. The two sport-specific promotions potentially give new users up to $200 in bonus bets when they place a small qualifying wager.

We’ll go into further detail about the nature of all of the offers, as well as preview some of the best bets for Monday, in the paragraphs below.

How to bet with the BetMGM bonus code on Monday

Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Lakers

Denver goes to the Crypto.com Arena looking to close out the Lakers on ESPN Monday night.

The Nuggets have looked dominant through the first three games, controlling the tempo on offense and forcing the Lakers into tougher shots, with Game 1 being a qualified exception. Since that first game, the Lakers have failed to reach 35 percent from three.

Denver, meanwhile, has been efficient on offense, posting a field goal percentage of 43 or higher in every game.

Beyond the obvious (that is Nikola Jokic), the key for the Denver offense is taking care of the ball and allowing Jamal Murray to facilitate. He’s already put together an impressive series, notching more than 30 points in every game with at least five assists in each, and he’ll be critical to a potential Nuggets sweep.

A sweep will be very tough. The Lakers are solid at home and too talented to get run out of the building in Game 4. That being said, a gentleman’s sweep is by no means out of the question.

To steady the ship, the Lakers need to make better decisions offensively and focus on getting to the rim rather than settling for jumpers. Game 2 was the closest between these two. In that game, LA was able to get to the hoop (putting up 48 points in the paint) and the freethrow (22/26) line a lot.

They repeated that process in Game 3 but were unable to solidify the defense enough to get the win.

The player props are interesting here, as Jamal Murray is a solid bet on rebounds and assists. He’s been collecting more boards than usual in part because of the Lakers’ poor shooting from deep. Most books have him at 10.5 RA and that’s low enough for a play on the over.

LA is a narrow, 3-point favorite here with the O/U at 224.5. While it seems unlikely that LA gets swept in their own building, the total is a bit high. Bet the under here as LA will squeak out a victory and live another day.

BetMGM promos, explained

Since BetMGM currently has three available promotions, new users can get a bit overwhelmed when signing up. That being said, we’ll break down the nuances of each promotion, highlighting the relevant details, in the paragraphs below.

The evergreen offer, which will be familiar to experienced bettors, gives new users their complete stake back in bonus bets — capped at $1,000 — if their first wager goes south. As long as users place a real-money, or cash, wager, they’ll get their full stake back in bonus bets up to $1,000.

The sport-specific promotions, both for the NBA and the MLB, give new users $100 in bonus bets when they place either a team moneyline wager on any MLB squad or any wager on an NBA playoff game.

Users in Ohio and Massachusetts will get $200 in bonus bets for the NBA promotion.

New bettors can claim the evergreen promotion by using the bonus code TRIBUNEMGM when signing up for a BetMGM account.

To claim this offer, users simply need to make their first deposit and place a cash wager of at least $10.

If that first wager wins, they’ll obviously collect their profit and keep their stake. They will not get any bonus bets if that first wager wins.

However, if that initial wager loses, new users will get their full stake back in bonus bets — capped at $1,000.

In addition to the standard new customer offer, users can choose from the two sport-specific offers from BetMGM. The MLB promotion, which users can claim using the bonus code TRIBUNEMLB, gives new players $100 in bonus bets when they place a $10 cash wager on any team moneyline. This promotion is currently available in every BetMGM state except Massachusetts, Ohio and New York.

The NBA offer is structured similarly, as new users will get bonus bets in exchange for a $10 real-money wager on any NBA playoff game. New users can claim this promotion with the bonus code TRIBUNENBA and get up to $100 in bonus bets with just a $10 real-money wager on any NBA playoff game. Notably, as part of this promotion, users in Ohio and Massachusetts will get $200 in bonus bets with the same qualifying wager.

Critically, all of these promotions mention bonus bets in some way. Essentially, bonus bets function as additional credits for users. They cannot be withdrawn or cashed out and, as is the case with all bet credits, are only valid for one wager.

So, if a new user places a $100 bonus bet wager on the Nuggets at +134 against the Lakers and Denver wins, the user will get $134 in profit but will not get their initial stake back.

Similarly, bonus bets are not distributed at a 1:1 ratio but rather proportionally based on each user’s stake. If a bettor places a wager of $50 or more, they’ll get multiple bonus bets — up to five — of equal value. However, if a user places a wager of less than $50, they’ll get one bonus bet equal to the value of their stake.

For example, if a new user is getting $500 in bonus bets, they’ll get five bonus bets equal to $100 a piece. If a user is getting $1,000 in bonus bets, they’ll get five bonus bets each equal to $200 apiece.
