Chicago police said an officer was shot in the hand Monday evening in the Englewood neighborhood on the city’s South Side.
Suspects fled the scene in the 5600 block of South Shields Avenue, and no arrests had been made as of Monday night, according to Tom Ahern, deputy director of news affairs and communications for the Chicago Police Department.
The officer was transported to University of Chicago Medical Center, according to a tweet by the Chicago Police Department shortly before 8 p.m.
The officer was shot in the left hand, CPD Interim Superintendent Fred Waller said at a 9:30 p.m. news conference near South Cottage Grove Avenue and East 57th Street, at the northwest corner of the hospital.
Area detectives are investigating. The Civilian Office for Police Accountability is also investigating the shooting.
