Car show being held Sunday at downtown Festival Park

“Cruising Down Memory Lane” car show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, in the parking lot north of Festival Park off Grove Avenue in downtown Elgin.

The new event is free for spectators and the entry fee display a vehicle is $10, according to information provided by the Elgin History Museum. Car registration is open from 10 a.m. to noon and is open to all years, makes and models of vehicles.

Geneva School District 304 holding huge auction Saturday

Geneva Community Unit School District 304 is holding an auction to sell excess items in its inventory at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5.

The auction will be held at the district’s Maintenance Building, 301 McKinley Street in Geneva. Parking is available at Geneva High School.

Large quantity and quality of excess inventory ranging from cubicles, partitions, desks, tables, chairs, and cabinets are being sold, a news release said. Brand name shop tools include Grizzley, DeWalt & Bosch, scroll saws, belt and spindle sanders, Unisaw with table, clamps, planer and some hand tools.

Other specialty items will include wall pads, wood cabinets, work benches (metal and wood), laminating machine, folding wire shelves on wheels, globes, a puppet show and a ball rack, the release said.

Purchases can be paid for with cash, check, credit and debit cards and participants must register with a proper photo ID. All Items will sell to the best and highest bidder, no property can be removed until purchases are settled, all sales are final and the district is not responsible for items or accidents once sold, the release said.

Little Free Library set up in Carpentersville’s Carpenter Park

Carpenter Park in Carpentersville is now home to a Little Free Library.

The library box was built and donated by local residents who wish to remain anonymous, according to a social media post from the village. The box is located at the northwest corner of the park, at the west end of the parking lot off Maple Avenue.

The small, weatherproof box holds books for people to donate, take, or borrow and return.
