No shortage of family fun this month at the Gail Borden public libraries in Elgin

A Bubble Show Spectacular, featuring Mr. Scott, will be held Friday outside the Gail Borden Public Library Rakow Branch.

From a bubble bash to flea market finds to family yoga, the Elgin-based Gail Borden Public Library District is offering ways for parents and kids to enjoy summer fun throughout August.

Here’s some of what’s being planned:

  • A Bubble Show Spectacular, featuring Mr. Scott, will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, outside the Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Road, Elgin. No registration is required.
  • A Children’s Flea Market in which students in grades 2 to 8 can sell their old treasures will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin. Nothing will be priced over $10. Only children’s items will be sold. Participants must register but the sale is open to everyone.
  • A Touch a Truck event featuring a fire engine, police car, ambulance, school bus and other vehicles will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, in the main library’s parking lot.
  • Storytimes for Families will be held from 11:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 10, at Lords Park Zoo, 325 Hiawatha Drive, Elgin, and 11 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at the main library.
  • Family Yoga, which will also feature stories and crafts, will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, on the outdoor stage at the main library.
  • A Children’s Book Author Fair will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, an the main library.
