Man gets 23-prison term for going into his estranged wife’s Carpentersville house, stabbing man 5 times

A Huntley man who went into his estranged wife’s Carpentersville home and stabbed a man he found with her has been sentenced to 23 years in prison in a plea agreement approved by Kane County Judge John Barsanti.

Joshua A. Doss, 43, of the 116 block of Woodcreek South, agreed to plead guilty to one count of home invasion, a class X felony, in exchange for the prison term under the negotiated deal, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Doss and his wife were divorcing, and he was prohibited from entering their house in the 3100 block of Merrywell Court under a court order, the state’s attorney’s office report said. Despite that, he went into the home armed with a knife on Dec. 28, 2020, and stabbed the victim five times in the chest and forearm, the report said.

The victim required surgery and spent five days in the hospital.

Doss has been held in the Kane County jail in lieu of $500,000 bail since his arrest, and will receive 923 days credit for the time served, the report said. Under state law, he must serve at least 85% of the sentence.

“Mr. Doss’ actions turned an emotional situation into an unnecessary, violent and bloody one,” Assistant State’s Attorney Kelly Orland said in a statement. “Given the severity of his injuries, the victim is lucky to be alive.”
