How do I refer a friend on FanDuel Sportsbook & what’s the bonus?

Several of the biggest sportsbooks in the country offer users some kind of referral promotion. Sports betting is more fun with your friends, plus FanDuel wants to grow organically without the need for additional marketing. Enter the refer-a-friend program.

Both the referring user and the new user will get $50 in bonus bets at FanDuel in Illinois and most other states.

Here are the key things to know about the refer-a-friend program:

• In most states, the referring user and the new user will each get $50 in bonus bets. In casino states like New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Michigan, each user will get $50 in sportsbook bonus bets and $25 in casino credit.
• To unlock the bonus, you must wager at least $10.
• You can refer a max of five friends per 30 days -- so in Illinois, the max bonus bets you could earn would be $250.

Promotion description

FanDuel’s Refer-A-Friend promotion is one of the best referral offers in the country. Existing users in Illinois and many other states can get $50 in bonus bets and referred friends can also get $50 in bonus bets when they sign up using the exclusive referral link. In online casino states, you can get an additional $25 in casino credit.

Each user will get bonus bets equal to $50 when the referred friend meets the promotion requirements (more on that below).

This promotion runs until June 30, 2023 and replaces any existing referral promotions in specific states. But new users will still get the “no sweat first bet” or whatever other new-user promo FanDuel is offering at the time.

How to claim this promotion

Claiming this offer is incredibly simple as FanDuel users can easily access their exclusive referral link on the “My Account” tab on either the desktop or mobile platform.

From there, the existing user needs to send the referral link to the referred friend. Notably, the referred friend cannot be an existing user as this promotion is only eligible for new users to claim and current users cannot be referred to FanDuel and are not eligible to claim the bonus bets.

Once the referred friend has used the link to sign up for a FanDuel Sportsbook account, they must place a real-money wager of at least $10. Only wagers placed with cash will qualify as wagers using credits will not trigger this offer.

The referring friend will get $50 for each referee that signs up using that exclusive link. The original friend can refer up to five other people in a 30-day period for up to $250 in bonus bets each month.

Critically, bonus bets from this promotion can be used for any variety of wagers on the FanDuel Sportsbook platform except Round Robins.

To redeem the referral bonus bets, users need to manually select “Sportsbook Bonus Bet” in the betslip window.

As noted, the referred friend has 30 days to use the referral link to sign up for a FanDuel Sportsbook account, place and settle a $10 wager to trigger to bonus bet payout. The referred friend’s wager must settle within the 30 days for the both users to get the bonuses.

Promotion requirements

21+. Must be physically present in AZ, CO, CT, IL, IN, IA, KS, LA, MD, NY, OH, TN, VA, or WY. Full T&C’s apply.

As noted above, to claim this promotion, the referred user must use the exclusive link to sign up for a FanDuel Sportsbook account, place a finalize a wager of at least $10 within 30 days of the initial referral to be eligible for the bonus bets.

The referring friend must have an active FanDuel Sportsbook account to generate the exclusive referral link.

Notably, any successful wager placed using bonus bets will payout the users winnings but will not include the stake as bonus bets are only eligible for one wager.

Though it is mentioned above it is critical to reiterate, this promotion is only accessible for existing customers referring new players who are at least 21 and physically present in a legal FanDuel Sportsbook state.

While there are company specific restrictions, as employees of FanDuel and similar companies cannot claim these offers, users also cannot refer any members of their household, regardless of whether they are related.

FanDuel’s referral offer vs. the competition

Many of the biggest sportsbooks in the country have some kind of referral promotion. Caesars and BetMGM both offer referral bonuses for existing players. BetMGM’s is also $50, Caesars is a bit higher at $100 but caps out at 10.

Since FanDuel only restricts on a monthly basis, users could potentially refer five friends a month for multiple months and stack up more bonus bets.

While the bonus bet amount isn’t the highest, the monthly max allows existing users to keep collecting the bonus bets throughout the duration of the promotion, and thus puts it narrowly ahead of the higher priced Caesars referral offer.
