Jets predictions, odds: NY futures market with Aaron Rodgers

The New York Jets logo is seen on their helmets during an NFL football game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets at Acrisure Stadium, Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022 in Pittsburgh, Penn.

Now that the New York Jets have officially landed future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, we can start to consider some early Jets predictions for the upcoming season.

In their trade to acquire Rodgers, the Jets will also get the Packers’ 15th overall pick in this draft, along with a fifth-round selection (No. 170).

As for the Packers, they’ll get the following 2023 picks from the Jets in the 2023 draft: New York’s first-round (No. 13), second-round (No. 42) and sixth-round (No. 207) picks. The Packers will also get a conditional second-round pick from New York if Rodgers plays at least 65% of the offensive snaps this season.

FanDuel Sportsbook already has a full menu when it comes to Jets futures. This preview will highlight what bettors should look for before getting involved in this market.

Patience is critical when betting on these Jets futures

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by this FanDuel betting menu. However, bettors should exercise some restraint if trying to bet these futures, as it might make sense to wait for the league to release its 2023 schedule.

But if you closely follow how the league does its scheduling rotation, Eric Allen and Jack Bell of NewYorkJets.com write that in addition to playing six games inside their division, Gang Green will face teams from the AFC West and NFC East in the upcoming season.

And since the Jets finished fourth in the division, they’ll face the fourth-place finishers of both the AFC North (Browns) and the NFC South (Falcons).

The Jets will play nine games at home and eight on the road. Their away games will include two West Coast trips to take on the Raiders and the Broncos.

Thus, based on the information, New York will play seven teams that made the playoffs last season: Chiefs, Eagles, Cowboys, Giants, Bills, Chargers and the Dolphins.

The good news for the Jets is that their games against the Chiefs and Eagles will be at home. The bad news is that both teams still look formidable after their respective runs to the Super Bowl last season.

But while it’s good to get a head start on the teams the Jets will face, nothing beats knowing the sequence of the games to identify situational spots that involve possible letdowns, scheduling, travel, or divisional vs. non-divisional games.

My first impression of the odds is that I’d recommend holding out for some player prop options that allow you to select a yes vs. no. For example, Wilson’s prop is vastly inflated as he’s +125 to score 10 or more touchdowns after having only four in 2022.

Nonetheless, I do think Lazard has some value at +250 to score 10+ touchdowns. After five seasons in Green Bay, he signed a four-year deal worth $44 million to join the Jets as a free agent.

Lazard is already familiar with Rodgers from their time together with the Packers. However, he spent most of his time operating behind Davante Adams, Green Bay’s former No. 1 wide receiver.

Lazard hasn’t played an entire season in the past three years. If he can stay healthy and demonstrate a similar rapport to that of Rodgers and Adams, 10+ touchdowns could certainly be within reach.
