Lansing police investigate shooting death during armed robbery

Lansing police are investigating the shooting death Thursday of 53-year-old Cameron Webster Sr., at a Lansing QuikTrip gas station and convenience store.

His stepmother, Mary Webster, said he worked security and often helped strangers struggling to fix their car on the side of the road.

“He was a very nice person, very kindhearted,” she said. “We were very upset, we couldn’t believe what just happened to him.”

Police said Webster was shot at 4:39 a.m. Thursday during an armed robbery outside the business, 17355 Torrence Ave., and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County medical examiner’s office listed the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds.

Webster said police told her that her son witnessed the robbery, reached for his own gun and exchanged gunfire. She said two of the people were hit by Cameron. Lansing police would not confirm or deny this information.

Police are working with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force to investigate, and ask any witnesses to call 708-895-7150.
