Photos: Lincoln Park Zoo tree — circa 1800 — felled
A bur oak tree has potentially been at its site at Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo since around 1800. The old tree was cut down because it is naturally dying. The tree, which predates the city of Chicago’s founding in 1837, has been part of the zoo’s natural landscape since its beginnings.
